Banff Ski Resort Overviewsunshine back door
There are three resorts in Banff National Park. Lake Louise and Sunshine Village are Larger and popular. Locals are quite divided as to which is their favourite of the two. Norquay is a smaller, more economical option. If you plan to visit all the resorts or want seasons passes, Ski Banff Lake Louise is the place to visit. Banff Gondola
The Banff Gondola is the Easiest way to get to the top of a mountain $26 adults, $13 ages 6-15. It's a quick drive or bus ride from downtown.
Upper Hot Springs
Next to the Gondola, the Upper Hot Springs is a nice place to relax in natural hot springs water. Sometimes theyBird use town water when the springs don't run and they do add chorine. Adults $7.30
Recommended - Heli Skiing
Heli skiing is the ultimate winter adventure. For day trips try RK Heli skiing (Invermere) or Purcell Heli Skiing (Golden). Cross Country Skiing
Cross Country Skiing is fantastic way to get out and enjoy the quiet beauty of winter. If you are new to cross country, try renting the gear at Snowtips - Backtrax and go down the street to the Bow River as it is flat and easy skiing. If you want to explore the parks trails, check the current trail conditions and the avalanche bulletin.
The Canmore Nordic Centre
The Canmore Nordic Centre was built for the 1988 Winter Olympics. It has world class groomed trails.
Skating
There is an indoor rink in the Banff Recreation Complex. Weather Permitting, you can skate on the river by the canoe docks (behind the hospital). There is also an outdoor rink behind the Banff Springs Hotel near the Waldhaus Restaurant. There is also a tobogganing hill and fire pit there.

Dog sledding is an exciting way to see the rockies. Visit Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours or Howling Dog Tours.
Ice Fishing
Though there is no ice fishing in the park, you can go to Spray Lakes south of Canmore. Banff Fishing Unlimited offers guided ice fishing trips. Visit the fishing page for more info.
Ice Climbing
Ice Climbing is an extraordinary experience. For guided tours or climbing school, visit Yamnuska Mountain Adventures.
Snowmobiling
Although there is no snowmobiling allowed in the Park, visit Adventures Unlimited for tours.
Caving
The Rat's Nest Cave near Canmore is a 4km long cave. Wild Cave Tours can guide you though it. The cave is always 5 celsius so it is a good winter option.
